On November 25, 2023, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women , Paris will be the scene of a major feminist demonstration. The collective "Grève Féministe" and Osez le Féminisme! are calling for people to join the procession to denounce all forms of sexist and sexual violence .
The collective's demands are clear
On this international day, support is expressed for all women in the world, especially those victims of armed conflicts, such as those in Ukraine, Burma, Palestine, Israel, and Nagorno-Karabakh. Solidarity is also affirmed for Afghan women, who face alarming oppression. The watchword is clear: Woman, Life, Freedom.
The event aims to pay tribute to all victims of sexist violence , whether they are women, LGBTQIA+ people, or anyone fighting against this violence. The alarming figures remind us that this violence persists everywhere and all the time, affecting our family spaces, work, studies, public spaces, transport, healthcare facilities, and many other areas.
The organizers emphasize that these violences find their roots in patriarchy and are often linked to other forms of discrimination . The women most affected are those who already suffer several oppressions, in particular women victims of racism, migrants, undocumented, precarious, in situations of handicap, lesbians, bi, trans, and those victims of the criminal porn industry.
The mobilization is reinforced by recent figures, such as the 848 femicides in France since 2017, domestic violence affecting 213,000 women per year, and rapes or attempted rapes which amount to 94,000 per year. The demands include an end to impunity for attackers , the application of existing laws, a national emergency plan, and effective public policies.
The collective also denounces the "Asylum and Immigration" bill, which could worsen the situation of women seeking asylum. The need for adequate funding, estimated at 2.6 billion euros according to the Women's Foundation, is highlighted to effectively combat this violence.
The demonstration of November 25 is a massive call to the streets to make these demands heard, demand concrete actions, and put an end to the sexist violence that unfortunately persists in society.
